Underground mining machinery is supplied with an oil and water emulsion from a supply pipe (3). The supply system is fitted with a by-pass device (1) which includes a stop valve (18) and a non-return valve (2). The supply pipe (3) is connected to the machine inlet pipe (5) by opening the stop valve (18) by hand. Opening this valve (18) exposes a piston in the non-return valve (2) to pressure so that the non-return valve is opened and the oil and water emulsion flows through the filters (6,9) to the inlet pipe (5). The filters (6,9) are protected from excess pressure by a pressure limiting valve (15) which is connected to the return flow pipe. USE - Coal mining machines.
