The seal for a large flap valve consists of a sealing spring (6) and a tensioning spring (7) fixed to either the valve flap or housing (5). On shutting the valve, the springs are displaced from their normal position to a sealing position against a sealing surface (5). An adjustable support (13) limits the spring displacement and allows the sealing force, exerted by the tensioning spring on the sealing spring, to be controlled. ADVANTAGE - Fine adjustment of sealing force possible.
