A twin hull container ship has two hulls arranged parallel to each other with their longitudinal axes aligned with the direction of motion of the ship. The two hulls (10,12) are connected to each other by a cross deck (14) which supports a bridge house (16). The width length and height of the usable interior space of thge two hulls are integral multiples of the width length and height respectively of a conventional container ship. Alternatively the width length and height of the interior of the two hulls may be integral multiples of the length width and height respectively of a conventional container ship.
