Mineral oil removal equipment consists of a heated container (1) for liquefying stearine; a pressure source, pref. a compressed air source (3) and a pump; and a spray device (7) connected to the container (1). A method of removing mineral oil (esp. liq. mineral oil prods.), by binding to form floating solids, involves spraying molten stearine (opt. mixed with vegetable oil) over the oil and collecting the resulting solids. USE/ADVANTAGE - The equipment is useful for removing mineral oil (prods.) from water surfaces. The stearine binds the oil to form a solid prod. which has stable floatability and is easy to collect. Uncollected residues are non-polluting and the stearine can be recovered by raffination or fractional distn. from the prod.
