The floating breakwater is anchored to the ground or the bottom of a watercourse. It has a contact surface, angled to the incoming wave, resp. water surface, and a connected overflow, to catch and remove the overflowing wave. The overflow is formed as a collection chamber (20) occupying the complete volume of the breakwater (1), except for the hollow volume (4,6) required to maintain a stable floating position. The chamber extends in width downwards partly encloses the area below the contact surface (10), and is closed on all sides. It has self draining outlets (22).
