An extrusion coating apparatus has a coating head formed of front and rear faces and an orifice between them. A fabric passes over the head close to the orifice and is coated with a solution. A pair of metal plates located in the orifice determine the coating width. The inner edges of the metal plates have a radius of 0.5 mm or less. The lower edges of the end faces of each metal plate is located flush with the upper edge of the front coating face. The upper edges of the end faces of each metal plate contacts the inner wall of the rear edge of the coating head. The distance between the upper edge of the end face of the metal plate and the rear edge of the coating orifice is one half or less than the orifice width. USE/ADVANTAGE - Coating flexible carriers, typically plastic film, paper or metal foil with a solution, esp. photosensitive or magnetic solutions. Produces a coating of the correct width and eliminates problems of wavy coating edges and uneven thickness.
