PURPOSE:To enable heat cycle fatigue properties to be quickly and easily examined by quickly heating a shape memory alloy specimen via the direct supply of pulse current having the predetermined waveform, and then quickly cooling the specimen with a heat sink concurrently with the disappearance of the current. CONSTITUTION:Various waveforms of pulse current are directly supplied to a shape memory alloy specimen 11 placed in a heat sink 10 under tensile stress with a weight 22, from a pulse generator and a drive circuit. The specimen 11 is thereby heated quickly, or cooled quickly with the heat sink 10 and a cooling fan 30, concurrently with the interruption of the pulse current supply. As a result, the specimen 11 repeats a shape recovery process due to the direct supply of the current for heating, and a deformation process due to cooling and stress loading, respectively at a high cycle. According to the aforesaid construction, the heat cycle fatigue test of a shape memory alloy can be performed quickly and easily.
