PURPOSE:To provide a device which can retrieve, display retrieved results in a prescribed order, and record retrieval history. CONSTITUTION:Picture data and character data regarding objects of art are stored on an optical disk 10. Retrieval of each object of art is performed when each prescribed retrieval item is inputted. Retrieved results are displayed on a high-fidelity TV monitor 70. The data of each object of art can be understood from characters displayed on the monitor 70 and each object of art can be viewed from pictures displayed on the monitor 70. A presentation file which indicates the displaying order of retrieved results is prepared on a floppy disk 20 and the retrieved results can be displayed in a prescribed order by operating a terminal 90. Such function can be utilized for lectures which use slides for explanation. The number of retrieved times of each object of art is recorded on a hard disk 30 as history information.
