PURPOSE:To enable estimating the quantity of water to be fed to a heat exchanger by a method wherein the total quantity of water which flows, the temperature of water, and the temperature of hot water from the heat exchanger are detected and calculation is done on the basis of the temperature set for the hot water required. CONSTITUTION:Water supplied through a feed pipe 13 is drawn into a heat exchanger 11 and also supplied to a thermomixing valve 12. At this stage, the thermomixing valve 12 has the valve opening already adjusted by the agency of a thermomixing valve-controlling means 20 on the basis of the hot-water temperature TS set by and inputted to a hot-water temperature-setting means 21. Relating to water supplied to a hot-water apparatus 10, the total quantity W of water and the temperature TIN of water are detected respectively by a quantity-of-flow detective means 15 and a water-temperature detective means 16 and the temperature TH of hot water discharged by the heat exchanger 11 is detected by a hot-water temperature detective means 17, and these results of detection are inputted to a water quantity- estimating means 19 in a control part 18. The water quantity-estimating means 19 furthermore reads a signal set for the hot-water temperature TS from the hot-water temperature-setting means 21 and calculates according to an equation (I) to obtain the quantity-of-water WH which is to be fed to the heat exchanger 11.
