PURPOSE:To improve the drying properties of rewritten characters by a method wherein a white ink composition prepared by dissolving or dispersing a white pigment, a filler, and a binder, as main components in a volatile solvent is applied on a substrate and dried to form a white ink layer, and a specific surfactant is compounded in the white ink layer composition. CONSTITUTION:One or more kinds of surfactants having a 10 or more Hydrophile-Lipophile Balance value are compounded in a white pigment, such as titanium dioxide, suitable for correcting or hiding an erratum, a filler, and a binder, such as resin and rubber. This compound is dissolved or dispersed in a volatile solvent to produce a white ink composition. This is applied on a flexible substrate and dried to form a white ink layer. At this time, in the process of volatilizing the volatile solvent, a groove-form rough surface is formed on the ink layer. Writing on the surface by a water pen, a fountain pen, or the like, results in the water content contained in the written ink being penetrated into the white ink layer through the groove-form rough surface by a capillary action. Furthermore, because the water content is adsorbed into the hydrophilic groups of the surfactant, the rewritten lines or characters are rapidly dried.
