PURPOSE:To accurately grasp long-distance submarine topography from right under an ultrasonic vibrator by scanning an ultrasonic wave beam on the horizontal sea bottom so that ultrasonic beam irradiation points are at equal intervals. CONSTITUTION:The scan controller 10 for a submarine topography detection sonar is equipped with a depth data output means 11 which supplies data related to the depth of the sea bottom, a reference pulse generating means 12 which generates reference pulses at a period determined based on the depth data supplied from the depth data output means 11, and an ultrasonic beam irradiation angle storage means 14 where ultrasonic beam irradiation angle data for forming ultrasonic wave beam irradiation points on the horizontal sea bottom at equal intervals.
