CONTAINMENT DEVICE FOR SAFELY REMOVING, STORING AND ULTIMATELY DISPOSING OF NEEDLES FROM HYPODERMIC NEEDLE/SYRINGE ASSEMBLIES

ABSTRACTThere is disclosed a needle removal and storage deviceto remove needles from hypodermic syringe assemblies andautomatically receive and safely store the same within thedevice which includes a storage member closed at one end andopen at the other end to receive used needles; and a topassembly disposed at the open end of the storage member havingan opening to receive a needle and its hub portion. The topassembly includes a grasping device proportioned to receive thehub portion of the needle to be removed from a syringe, thegrasping device being adaptable to constrict the opening whensqueezed by a person holding the device and to grasp the needlehub for removal thereof from a syringe. When a needle isinserted and received in the opening of the top assembly a usermay grasp the needle hub by squeezing the grasping device andremove the hypodermic syringe from the needle, after which thegrasp on the needle may be released to permit the needle todrop vertically into the storage member for automatic safestorage.
