A crossflow fixed-bed reactor is laterally bounded by main louvres, through the orifices of which the gas stream is passed, each louvre unit (17) of the main louvre (23) on the downstream side being associated with a gas-permeable retaining and guiding element (14) for loose material particles. Each main louvre unit (17) can also be provided with an upstream secondary louvre unit (15, 19). IMAGE
