The present invention relates to a method for the economical manufacture of a piston-cylinder unit. According to this method, at least the cylindrical surfaces, against which a sealing ring is applied, must be coated, after rough pre-machining of sufficient thickness, eg with a powder coating, preferably resin-based. epoxy and crosslinkers, and heated sufficiently to cause lacquer to crosslink. Expensive finishing phases involving chip removal as well as galvanic surface treatments can thus be eliminated. A high resistance to wear and corrosion is obtained, as well as the possibility of eliminating the phenomena of wear by simple retouching.
