In order to programme a video recorder by means of a bar code reader and the current programme periodical, which contains bar code information, it is necessary for the programme locations of the video recorder to be assigned the television programme sources in the same assignment as is provided in the programme periodical. The present invention permits programming of a video recorder by means of a bar code reader in conjunction with arbitrary assignment of the television programme sources to the programme locations.
