The mixture-compressing engine has an auxiliary combustion chamber in the cylinder head and in which the mixture is ignited by the sparking plug. The mixture then emerges via a passage as a jet into the main chamber enclosed between the piston and head. A resonance chamber (8) is situated between the auxiliary chamber (6) and the passage (7), and can be connected to the former via an overflow bore (9).
