Introducing amino gps. into polypropylene textiles for reactive dyeing - by forming radicals on the fibre, esp. by irradiation, grafting with N-vinyl-amide and hydrolysing amide to amine gps.
Incorporating amino gps. into polypropylene (PP) fibre in order to confer affinity to anionic dyes and reactive dyes; the process involves producing radicals on the textile material, graft-linking with N-vinylamides (I) and then hydrolysing the amide gps. to amino gps.. More specifically graft-linking with (I) is carried out with the aid of electron beam irradiation; (I) are cyclic or linear vinyl-amides, e.g. N-vinyl-pyrrolidone, -caprolactam or -methylacetatmide, and the amide gps. are hydrolysed in acid medium, pref. in 5-20% HCl at 20-95 deg. C. e.g. by treating fibre grafted with 10% N-vinylpyrrolidone for 1 hr. at 95 deg. C with 9% HCl. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process increases the affinity of PP fibre textiles towards anionic and reactive dye and hence gives wash-fast colours. (4pp Dwg.No.0/0)
