A treatment plant for separating foreign matter from coal, consists of three settling tanks (11,12,13) installed side by side. A mixture of coal, foreign matter, and water, flows into the first settling tank (11). Whilst in the tank the mixture is subjected to pulses of air generated by fans (20) which deliver the air to the expansion chamber (17). The air pulses generate pulses in thhe water and so separate the heavier foreign matter from the coal. This process is repeated in the second and third settling tanks (12,13), with foreign matter being removed in each tank. USE/ADVANTAGE - Removal of foreign matter from coal. The use of three settling tanks improves the degree of removal of foreign matter.
