The bypass coupling for a hydrodynamic torque converter, especially for vehicles, consists of a piston-type disc part (6) which has a friction surface (26) on its radially outer part (23). The disc part's (6) radially inner part is axially spaced apart from a cover-plate (12) fixed to it. An axle disc (11) is positioned between the piston and cover-plate and has windows (15) in containing two tangential spiral springs (13). The piston has outward, semicircular bulges (18) enclosing the spiral springs, and forming windows (17). The radial end edges are flush with the end edges (16) of the cover-plate (12). ADVANTAGE - The compact bridging-coupling consists of a piston acting as a control for the spiral springs and has outward, impervious bulges and dispenses with a second cover-plate.
