A system for introducing gases into bodies of water has a submerged gas distributor and a means for raising and lowering this distributor. The raising/lowering means is provided with floats (7) which balance the weight of the gas distributor (5), and with parallel supports (10) whose upper ends (9) are connected by pivoting joints to the gas distributor. These supports, the distributor and the floor (2) of the tank, pond etc., form a parallelogram, and the length of the supports is such that when in a vertical position they hold the parts of the distributor which require maintenance above the surface of the water (3). USE/ADVANTAGE - Used e.g. in the aeration of clarification ponds or for introducing carbon dioxide into water in order to nourish bacteria. A means for raising and lowering the gas distributor is simpler and cheaper than the systems used at present.
