A precision cheese package (Sp) is wound with a surface drive (Aw) and a traverse (V) controlled by a computer (R) so that the package speed (eta Sp) and the package dia. (alpha Sp) and the empty package tube dia. (alpha Sp) are related by the relationship (I) where K is a constant. When a stored dia. value (e.g. alpha 1) is reached, the next winding stage is switched in. Pref. the number of yarn cross-overs (Mn) of a winding stage with a chosen tolerance (alpha 1, alpha 2) on the selected crossing angle (alpha), starting from an initial cross-over value (Mo) for the empty tube, is given by the relationship (II), where n = 0, 1, 2, etc. (number of winding stages) i.e. integers, and is stored in the computer. The corresp. package diameters (alpha Sp) given by the relationship (III), where n = 0, 1, 2, 3 etc. (number of winding stages, i.e. integers), are also stored. The calculated package diameter (alpha Sp) is used to select the correction value (K(m)) which is proportional to the cross-over (Mn) for the speed (Nv) of the traverse motor (Mv). USE/ADVANTAGE - Computer control of precision winders is improved which does not depend on yarn parameters.
