Prodn. of molecular oxygen from atomic oxygen in the residual atmosphere in outer space comprises adsorbing atomic oxygen on the surfaces of sintered Pt particles in an adsorbent bed; transport of the adsorbed oxygen through the adsorbent, against a temp. gradient, to the other side of the adsorbent bed, facilitating sepn. from other gases; and recovery of molecular oxygen from the internal side of the adsorbent bed using vacuum pumps.
