The thermodynamic machine has two hollow cylindrical sections (25,31), filled with a gas. Each section contains a rotating displacement device (12,34), with separation elements (70) between each of the latter and in an inside wall of the respective cylindrical section. Each cylindrical section has a relatively spaced inlet (33,41) and outlet (27,37) for the gas which is passed through the cylindrical sections in succession, in the same flow direction. The two cylindrical sections are coupled via at least one heat exchanger (26,40), one displacement device (12) acting solely as a compressor, the other displacement device (34) acting solely as a working rotor.
