The method according to the invention consists in: - seating the individual on an adjustable bench (1); - immobilising one of his/her thighs in a horizontal plane; - positioning the leg in a vertical plane containing the central axis of the thigh; - placing, around the leg, means (54, 7) for recording the extent of the said free movements; - pivoting the leg about its geometric axis on each side of the said vertical plane; - and in reading off the maximum angular extent of the free movements.
