A substrate (1) protective coating comprises the application, e.g. hot spray or dipping, of a bituminous product (2) over which is hot applied at least one layer (3) of a saturated acyclic hydrocarbon solid that is meltable pref. paraffin. USE/ADVANTAGE - Internal coating of wine-making vats where the bitumen ensures good adhesion and the paraffin prevents degradation, resists the action of acids, reduces tartar coating and aids cleaning.
