The invention relates to a valve for regulating the flow rate of water in a sewage network (main) and which is designed so as to provide a hydraulic cleaning flush of the downstream network while the upstream network is being drained, this valve for regulating the flow rate of water comprising: - a regulating valve (4) guided in terms of translation in its plane so as to close off the orifice (3) in the wall (2) to a greater or lesser extent and, - connected to this regulating valve (4) a more or less complicated device (5) for controlling its movement using a control means (6), - means (11) for the purpose of periodically discharging deposits. It is characterised in that the device for controlling the regulating valve comprises, in combination, means converting the oscillatory movement of the lever (7) carrying the float (9) into a rotational movement, not of the regulating valve itself but of a means (18) which defines a particular law for the heightwise movement of the regulating valve and means making sure that the regulating valve moves heightwise according to the law defined by the rotation of the means (18).
