Method for the biological treatment (biological purification) of waste water, at least comprising the waste water being brought into contact with microorganisms over a specific period, the waste water being admixed with essentially pure oxygen, after which the microorganisms are separated from the waste water and the waste water thus treated can be further treated or discharged, the oxygen being added as a function of the oxygen concentration of the waste water, and an amount of stripping gas depending on the pH of the waste water being passed through. The said oxygen and stripping gas control arrangement could also be carried out in an optionally following nitrification and denitrification step. Also described is a reactor suitable for carrying out the said process, as is a waste water treatment (waste water purification) installation comprising one or more of such reactors.
