Nitride matrix metal-ceramic composites containing intercalations of a three-dimensionally crosslinked aluminium-containing metal phase are characterised by a penetration structure of 15 - 50% by volume of aluminium and 1 - 30% by volume of silicon in a matrix of finely disperse aluminium nitride; a process for producing metal-ceramic composites is included. Metal nitride-metal composites of high wear resistance, stability at room temperature and high temperatures, and hardness and a process for the production thereof by reaction infiltration of a metal melt into a porous ceramic precursor of any desired shape with simultaneous or delayed exchange reaction are to be developed.
