Intake air is deflected by baffles (2) onto the walls of the separator (1). The separator (1) can be located in a section of pipe where the temp. of the air passing through is so high that the base and flux constituents of the oil are vapourised, or the temp. of the separator walls themselves is high enough to vapourise the oil when it comes into contact with them - minimum 160 deg.C for multigrade and 190 deg.C for single grade oils. The remaining oil constituents form an adhesive coating on the separator wall. The separator (1) is best positioned in the intake pipe (3) upstream of the charge cooler (5). USE/ADVANTAGE - A simple and cheap, but very effective, method of removing oil particles from intake air of turbocharged IC engine. Compact, easy to clean and dismantle.
