Separate heater plates (5) are contained in a box-like upper platen (12), which is flexibly suspended from crossbeams (6) which are connected by an upper frame (9) allowing vertical movement at least equal to the max. theoretical deflection of the crossbeams (6). The lower platen (4) is rigidly mounted on crossbeams (3) and the pairs of crossbeams (3,6) are held together by tie-bolts (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - In-situ joining of, esp. rubber, conveyor belts, pref. forming endless belts. Vertical movement of the upper platen w.r.t the upper crossbeams permits the platen to deform, independently of the crossbeams, giving uniform moulding pressure on the belt (1) to be joined. Assembly time and labour is reduced. Loose connection of the crossbeams to the upper frame (9) avoids excessive loading of the frame, which can be made lighter for handling. Lateral positioning of the crossbeams by the frame avoids uneven loading and pressure on the belt due to manual placing.
