Measuring dynamic characteristics of optical transmitter or receiver - using mathematical model defined by given formula, and matching to obtain set of measurements
Measuring dynamic characteristics of optical transmitter or receiver - using mathematical model defined by given formula, and matching to obtain set of measurements
The optical modulation gradient and the relative intensity noise of an optical transmitter or receiver are determined using a mathematical model which is matched to a measuring set. The mathematical model is defined by an equation expressing the optical input power in terms of a logarithmic function encompassing the reciprocal of the square of the frequency dependant modulation level at a constant electrical input power, the elementary charge and the static response sensitivity, or the photodetector quantum response. The required measurements can be repeated for a number of different frequencies sufficient to allow interpolation of the frequency characteristic. ADVANTAGE - Applicable to non-calibrated electro-optical transducers.
