Over the top of the portal crane is a weatherproof housing (2). The portal legs (3) are carried on travelling beams (4,5) spaced apart by a width encompassing a hatch cover (14). Traversable along the beams are trolley hoists (10,11) each with two lifting winches (12,13). By use of the trolley hoists the hatch covers can be lifted and traversed along the beams to be laid down outside the covered area. USE/ADVANTAGE - Portal-type deck crane. Hatch can be opened without exposing sensitive cargo to bad weather conditions.
