The electrode system includes a breast plate (22) having a series of slits. The shape of the breast shield (22) and the arrangement of the slits (12-21) can be matched to different thorax shapes. The leads (2-11) can be connected at several measurement places, for detecting the ECG signals. The breast shield essentially has the shape of a capital T standing on its head, and the slits (12-21) are arranged at the T extensions (23,24,25). The extensions are arc-shaped at their ends. ADVANTAGES - Allows quick and reliable positioning of electrode system and simplifies method carried out by medical personnel.
