Treatment of waste water by spray drying, esp. in submarines - involves pretreating waste by dewatering as it enters drying chamber using vacuum or centrifugal filtration system

The waste water is pre-dried using a vacuum and/or centrifugal force as it enters the dryer housing and before the heated drying medium is admitted. Also claimed is an appts. for carrying out the procedure, in which a vacuum device (4) is connected to the dryer housing (2) and filter (11) located within the dryer housing retains the solid material content of the vacuum-treated water. Pref. a rotating filter drum is located within the dryer housing and is provided with a scraping system for removing the solids which are accumulated on the drum. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in manned spaces from which contact with the external atmos. is excluded, e.g. submarines. A procedure is used which is independent of the external air and is not damaging to the environment, and the waste is reduced to a minimal vol. which is easiily and cheaply disposed of.
