Cooling system for engine of e.g. combine harvester or tractor - monitors temperature of airflow and reverses fan action to clear blocked filter if temperature exceeds limit

The engine is cooled by a radiator (1) for the engine coolant and with a fan (8) drawing air through the radiator. A filter screen (4) in front of the radiator collects debris, eg. straw and chaff in a combine harvester. The airflow temperature behind the radiator is monitored and when it rises above a set level the airflow is reversed to clear the filter. The covering cowl (3) can be raised during clearing to assist removal of the debris. The airflow reversal is achieved by reversing the fan rotation or by reversing the fan blade pitch. The fan is driven off the engine or via an electric motor. The venting action is time/temperature controlled and can also be time controlled. ADVANTAGE - Automatic clearing of blocked filters, raised cowl gives clear indication of clearing action.
