Device for transferring samples from containers into a reaction vessel makes use of disposable units (20) which are attached to the point (20a) of a sample-transfer probe. The device comprises: - a sample aspiration and transfer device (21) which is connected to the sample transfer probe, - a device (19) for washing the disposable unit (20), - a device (23) for removing the disposable unit from the probe, and - a control device for selective operation of the washing unit and the disposble unit removal device, so that in "washing mode" the disposable unit is washed and then re-used, while in "disposal mode" the used disposable unit is removed from the sample transfer probe. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in the handling of samples of urine, serum, plasma etc.. The number of disposable units used is reduced, so that operating costs of the sample handling/analysis system are minimised.
