PURPOSE:To permit the certain copying for the front and back surfaces by setting the content of a counter for the rest number of times in multicopying for each document to a set value of a counter for the number of times of paper supply from an intermediate tray when the back-surface copying for the jammed paper becomes impossible because of the generation of clogging of paper during the back-surface copying. CONSTITUTION:When jam is generated in the execution of the both-surface copying operation and said jam is generated in the execution of the back surface copying mode, the content of a counter Y which shows the rest number of times of the multicopying for the document is set to the content of a counter YDD which shows the rest number of sheets supplied from an intermediate tray in the execution of the back surface copying mode. The number Yn of paper sheets in shortage for copying is calculated by subtracting the value of the counter YDD from the value of the counter Y, and the calculated value and the order number of the document Nn to be copied are written into a RAM. Therefore, even if jam is generated in the execution of the back surface copying, the rest number of times of the correct multicopying can be certainly calculated by the counter Y, and the divergence between the document and the front and back surfaces of the paper sheets is prevented.
