PURPOSE:To prevent flaws and distortion on the surface of glass by compressing a glass plate to the surface of a package with a spacer, in which a heat resisting synthetic resin material and a metal plate are sequentially laminated so that a spacer is overlapped on the glass plate. CONSTITUTION:A spacer 15 comprises a heat resisting synthetic resin 13 and metal plate 14 having the same thermosetting property. The spacer 15 is formed in the approximately similar shape as a glass plate 11. The side of the synthetic resin 13 is made to face the surface of the glass plate 11. In packaging, low melting point glass 12 is applied on the entire periphery of an opening. Then the glass 12 is fused and the glass plate 11 is stacked thereon. At this time the glass plate is compressed to the surface of a package 10 from the upper side of the spacer 15, which is overlapped on the upper side of the glass plate with a compressing means. The glass plate is fixed so as to close the opening of an accommodating part. Even if the spacer receives a force in the slant direction with the compressing means and is slidden to the lateral direction, damage on the surface of the glass can be prevented.
