CAPPING METHOD OF POLYPHENYLENE ETHER, POLYPHENYLENE RESIN OBTAINED THEREWITH AND COMPOSITION THEREOF

PURPOSE: To obtain a reaction product of a polyphenylene ether resin containing increased hydroxyl group content with a capping agent which is reactive with hydroxyl groups of such a polyphenylene ether resin. ;CONSTITUTION: A preparation procedure for a polyphenylene ether resin is provided in which (a) all monohydroxy aromatic compound is added at the beginning of polymerization, (b) the monohydroxy aromatic compound is polymerized until virtual completion in the presence of an oxygen source to form a polyphenylene ether, (c) the oxygen source is replaced with nitrogen, (d) the polyphenylene ether is reacted with a reaction-byproduct containing biphenol under a condition which enables the introduction of the byproduct containing biphenol into the polyphenylene ether, in a procedure to prepare a polyphenylene ether resin containing increased hydroxyl group content which is obtained by polymerization of at least one kind of monohydroxy aromatic compound in a solution by oxidative coupling.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
