The method of measurement serves to determine the sliding friction coefficient between flexible, flat sheets of material such as, for example, for paper test strips A and B. The two test strips A and B to be measured are mounted with their ends parallel to the pulling direction and their loose ends are fed in the opposite direction through a slit disposed transversely to the pulling direction and formed from a roller pair (8; 9). The oppositely situated test strips A and B are loaded with a loading force FN determined by the roller pair (8; 9) and, optionally, by loading weights (11). The actual measurement is performed by moving the test strips A and B parallel to the pulling direction at constant speed in opposite directions through the roller slit (14), the frictional force of the test strips A and B which glide over one another being measured by means of a force transducer (5).
