Monoclonal antibodies to HiV-1 gp120, cell lines producing them and corresponding epitope structures

The invention provides monoclonal antibodies to HIV-1, which react with a HIV-1 gp120 glycoprotein or first variant thereof wherein the aminoacids Asn-88, Lys-117, Asn-262 and Tyr-435 are present, and exhibit an at least 50% reduced reaction with a second variant of said glycoprotein which differs from said glycoprotein or first variant thereof in that one or more of said aminoacids has been deleted or mutated. Furthermore, the invention provides compositions for passive and active immunization based on these antibodies and on anti-idiotype antibodies, respectively; as well as cell lines and processes for producing these antibodies.
