Method and circuit arrangement for collecting self-monitoring information in information transmission systems containing plug-in components. To enable identification data of the individual components to be updated in simple fashion and to be polled by a signal collector, the identification data is read into EEPROMs by means of a setup computer and polled by means of the signal collector using address selection and clock control.
