The telephone handset (30) has an earpiece (42) and a mouthpiece (31) with an electric line (34) mechanically coupled to the latter. Inside the mouthpiece is a ribbed structure (51) and a retainer (63) with an integral socket (33) brought out outside through the mouthpiece. Pref. the ribbed structure consists of two mirror symmetrical halves. The retainer is made of metal. The ribbed structure may be an integral part of the mouthpiece. The periphery of the retainer has protrusions engaging corresp. grooves at the mouthpiece inside. USE/ADVANTAGE - For public telephone boxes. Vandal-proof features and lead cable tension relief.
