Water is supplied from a storage container (2) through sets of pipes to a boiler (3), a radiator or other heating element (4) and a solar collector (5) in circuit with the heat exchanger (5a). A horizontal perforated metallic plate (11) supports a number of latent heat storage elements (6) each having a thermally conductive shell (7) contg. storage material (9), and a vapour space (10) for heat transfer fluid (8). A hydraulic separator (12) such as a rubber sleeve is positioned at the level of the interface between the storage material and vapour. ADVANTAGE - A simply constructed arrangement of latent heat storage elements does not interfere significantly with the flows of water in the container.
