A contact system for use in electrical power switching applications has a number of fixed contacts (14) formed on metal carriers (12). The movable contact pads (18) are mounted at the ends of pivot mounted carrier arms (16). The pivot points are provided by pins (26) that project from a support spindle (38). The contact carrying arms are subjected to the force produced by cost springs (20). One end of each spring is fixed to pins in the carrier and the others to pins (48) reacting against grooves in the main spindle. The spindle moves to control opening and closing of the contacts. The line of action of the spring force provides a snap action effect. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for load and safety switching. Reliable operation with high current overload.
