The treated data stream is subjected to a vector quantising such that the magnitude of the single- or multi-dimensional code book vectors of the quantiser correspond to the process length of the single- or multi-dimensional signal sections of the transformation, or certain parts of them. The vector quantised data stream is subtracted from that subjected to the absolute value formation. The data stream, reapplied to the processing for data compression, consists of the differential data stream, the data sign prior to the absolute value formation, and the vector number generated by the vector quantiser. USE/ADVANTAGE - For audio, video and other signals, e.g. in video telephone, with more effective use of redundancy.
