The two bands (6,7) are clamped around the concrete pier (1), and profiled flat iron cleats (21,22) are fixed at intervals to the bands. Vertical posts (4) are fixed to the cleats, and the horizontal parallel guard rails are fixed one above the other to these posts. Rubber pads a few millimetres thick are inserted between the bands and the pier to deaden the shock of impact. Alternatively the bands may be hinged at the salient angles of the pier and fastened by bolts at only one point. The guard rails have rounded ends and are bolted together. ADVANTAGE - Relatively easy to assembly and fix.
