The hand desired values (HS) are specified for a respective torque, for the forming of a first control desired value (SSN) for the control of the drive motor. The wt. of the base load (GL) is computed (EGL) from the wt. of the dead load (TL) and the rope wt. (SG). A base desired value (GS) is formed from this. A tension load is determined (EGM) from the speed of the hoisting rope and from this a tension desired value (ZS). A further control desired value (SSH) is determined from the base desired value (GS) and the tension desired value (ZS), also a tension actual value (ZI) on the part of the drive motor by means of a tension regulating unit (ZRE). Across entered hand desired values (HS) for rope tension or lifting, lowering load, load is only lifted or drawn up with upward movement of ship, or lowered with downward movement and is placed on the ship.
