A ball socket (16) has an outside surface (18) and socket channel (20). This channel has a channel axis (P-P), an insert opening (22), inner circumferential face (24), inner end support (26) and security elements (32). The ball socket (16) can either be made in one piece with the security cams (32) and/or have a passage (30) allowing a tool access to the ball head (10) in the socket (16). The ball head then has a tool engagement area (10b). The ball joint can be fitted on a piston cylinder unit such as a gas spring which can be attached to a superposed vehicle structure with a horizontally swivelling swivel member. The ball head for engaging with the ball socket can be prefitted on the superposed structure. The ball socket can be made from hard elastic plastics material.
