A platform (4) which picks up the objects (3) has two pick-up faces (5,6) set at right angles to each other. The platform (4) is swivel mounted in a fixed base frame (10) and the lowering swivel movement of the platform is throttled by a brake device (13). The brake device is pref. formed by at least one hydraulic piston cylinder (13) arranged rotatable on the base frame (10, 11) and platform (4). The piston cylinder unit can have a locking and/or control element (14,18) for adjusting the rate of flow of the hydraulic fluid which passes out of the piston cylinder unit through a hydraulic pipe (15). USE/ADVANTAGE - Easier handling and transfer of packets of building materials from pallets with controlled lowering.
